David Icove, PhD, PE, CFEI-NAFI, CFI-IAAI®, F. SFPE, F. NAFE
An internationally recognized forensic fire engineering expert with more than 45 years of experience, Dr. Icove is coauthor of Kirk's Fire Investigation, 8th ed., Forensic Fire Scene Reconstruction, both leading treatises in the field, and Combating Arson-for-Profit, the leading textbook on the crime of economic arson. During 1992 to 2018 he has served and maintained an appointment as a principal member of the NFPA 921 Technical Committee on Fire Investigations. He is also chair of NPFA 901 - Committee on Fire Reporting.
Dr. Icove holds BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Engineering Science and Mechanics from the University of Tennessee. He also holds a BS degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland—College Park. He is currently the UL Professor of Practice in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; serves on the faculty of the University of Maryland's Professional Master of Engineering in Fire Protection program; and serves as an Investigator in the Knox County Fire Investigation Unit and as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for the Knox County Sheriff's Office, Knoxville, Tennessee.
Robert K. Toth, IAAI-CFI®
Robert Toth began his professional career in the fire service, dedicating nearly 21 years to this field. During his last decade in the service, he transitioned to law enforcement, specializing in fire investigations within the public and private sectors. In 2002, following his retirement from the fire service, he established IRIS Fire Investigations, Inc., where he conducts origin and cause investigations in Colorado and neighboring states.
Besides his investigative work, Robert is highly respected for his knowledge. He is frequently invited to give lectures and presentations on various topics, including fire investigations, NFPA 921, interviewing techniques, internet technology, and digital photography training. He is also a principal contributor to the recent editions of Kirk's Fire Investigations. He has shared his expertise with public agencies and private enterprises across the United States and internationally in Canada, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Botswana, and South Africa.
Robert is also proud to have previously served as the President of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI).
